What Wonderful Women:
During 2008, Chester-le-Street District Council embarked upon a project that has involved and hopefully inspired, women in our district.
"What Wonderful Women" is about celebrating the lives and achievements of women who live or work in our district, and also of those women in our history who blazed a pathway for us. This is for all women - from the most ordinary to the quite extraordinary. Our idea was to capture and record stories and bring them together in an exciting and informative way.
We have collected a large library of photographs, documents and memorabilia, about women during the past hundred years. We also have recorded 'living histories' - reminiscences captured on a 45 minute DVD, interviewing groups and individuals to record stories.
We have made these archives available to all, through schools, libraries and other public places. They are a fantastic source of information for schools and students, local historians, community groups and so on, as well as a real legacy for future generations.
We would still welcome donations of photographs, documents and memorabilia to add to this archive.
